Having a comprehensive eye exam regularly is important when it comes to maintaining your visual heath. Doing so could detect not only vision problems, but also certain medical conditions. Here are some of the things Origins Eye Clinic assesses during an exam:
Medical History
Your personal history can guide us on what to include in your eye care plan. We may ask about any systemic or eye diseases that you or any of your relatives have, since many eye conditions are hereditary. Our questions may also involve medications you’ve taken, or procedures or surgeries you’ve undergone, or meds you’re taking that might affect your current eye health.
Visual Acuity Test
We may ask you to cover one eye while you read some letters and numbers from a visual chart. This allows us to measure how sharp your eyes are. We will then ask you to do the same with the other eye. This test can help us check for signs of refractive errors and see if you need to use corrective eyewear or undergo LASIK eye surgery.
Refraction Test
We may ask you to look into different lens powers from a phoropter. We’ll ask you to single out the specific lens that works best for you. This provides an accurate lens grade measurement for your eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Digital Retinal Exam
Digital retinal exams provide a three-dimensional view of your eyes, helping us get a closer look at your internal eye structures. This makes it easier to diagnose various eye conditions, such as cataracts, retinal tears and macular degeneration. We can also determine if you need more extensive examinations or if your condition requires specific eye care services or products as part of your treatment.
We may have you undergo other tests or procedures if necessary, depending on your history and test results. Once everything is done, we’ll discuss our recommended management to keep your eyes in good health.
